Wish Upon the Pleiades

subaru_logoevolution

Subaru was founded 63 years ago by Kenji Kita. He had a long dream of getting the company he was the CEO of, Fuji Heavy Industries, into the business of car manufacturing. Kita began plans for building a car with the development code-name P-1. Kita asked for and received many proposals for an official name for the new car. None appealed to him in any significant way, which lead to the first time ever that love made a Subaru a Subaru.

Kita gave the car a Japanese name that he had “been cherishing in his heart”: Subaru, which is the name of the Pleiades star cluster in Japanese. So much of his love, heart and soul was put into this car that no name was good enough except for one that came from so deep in his heart.

The Pleiades is a star cluster not too far from Earth and visible with the naked eye. The cluster is dominated by hot blue and extremely luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 million years. The Pleiades were an inspiration to Kita 63 years ago as he navigated his way through the invention of the brand, as well as helping sailors navigate the Mediterranean Sea, as ‘the season of navigation began with their heliacal rising’. Subaru has even recently collaborated with Japanese anime studio to produce animation series ‘Wish Upon the Pleiades’ as a marketing effort in Japan. The series can be viewed on YouTube and a film adaptation is currently in production.

The Pleiades were used to create the logo for Subaru as well. The six star design (although the star cluster contains seven stars, two of them are so close they look like one) is the focal point of the brand’s emblem. There has always been a blue background due to the bright blue burning of the stars. Subaru’s emblem has remained consistently used around the world since 1958, emphasizing the brand’s ongoing, global unity.

Our customers love us!

Our Rimrock Subaru General Manager BJ Johnson is committed to exemplary customer service. Here is a review of one satisfied customer this past June.

“I want to thank Scott Johnson for putting me into my dream car. I wasn’t even planning on purchasing a brand new vehicle when I stepped onto the lot but we met Scott and test drove a 2016 Subaru Cross trek and I fell in love. He worked with us to get us into the new car with a comfortable and affordable price. He is wonderful to work with and very informative I will never buy a vehicle anywhere else or from anyone else. Thank you so much for making me feel like a million bucks in my new car, and I will for sure make the drive from Minot to purchase another vehicle from you!”

Bloomberg Business : Subaru is still the hottest car in America

Bloomberg Business - Subaru is still the hottest car

“The U.S. auto business in 2015 is a Hollywood movie—one big car chase and a happy ending. If there’s a hero, it’s scrappy little Subaru, the Japanese company best known as Fuji Heavy Industries.

“U.S. drivers bought a record 53,070 Subarus in September, a 28 percent increase over the same month last year. No other car company saw sales grow so quickly. In fact, no other company has been close to matching Subaru’s sales pace all year.”

2014 Subaru Forester is an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK

Subaru remains the only manufacturer with IIHS Top Safety Picks for all models for the fourth consecutive year (2010-2013)

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 6, 2013 /CNW/ – Subaru Canada, Inc. is pleased to announce that the completely redesigned 2014 Forester has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) top award for good performance in its moderate overlap frontal, side, rollover and rear impact evaluations. This distinction has helped Subaru become the only automaker to earn a 2013 TOP SAFETY PICK for every model it builds.

“Safety is always top of mind as we aim to inspire confidence and peace of mind on every road in all conditions,” said Shiro Ohta, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. “Subaru’s ring-shaped reinforcement frame has been proven in more than a decade of use. This design provides excellent protection with the structure increasing cabin rigidity and absorbing impact energy from any direction.”

TOP SAFETY PICK recognizes vehicles that, in IIHS testing, do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rear, and now rollover crashes based on ‘good’ ratings in each category. The IIHS ranks in terms of Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor, with ‘good’ as the top rank possible in Institute tests. Winners also must have electronic stability control.

“For four consecutive years, Subaru is the only automotive manufacturer with the distinction of earning IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK awards for every model it builds,” said Institute president Adrian Lund. “Subaru deserves praise for making safety a top priority.”

About IIHS To qualify for a TOP SAFETY PICK, vehicles must have good ratings for occupant protection in the moderate overlap frontal, side impact, rollover and rear tests. IIHS rates vehicles as good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on performance. The Institute’s frontal crashworthiness evaluations are based on results of a 40 mph moderate overlap frontal crash. Side evaluations are based on performance in a crash test in which the side of a vehicle is struck by a barrier moving at 31 mph. The barrier represents the front end of a pickup or SUV. Rear crash protection is rated according to a two-step procedure. Starting points for the ratings are measurements of head restraint geometry – the height of a restraint and its horizontal distance behind the back of an average-size man. In the roof strength test, a metal plate is pushed against one side of a roof at a displacement rate of 0.2 inch per second. To earn a good rating for rollover protection, the roof must withstand a force of four times the vehicle’s weight before reaching five inches of crush. This is called a strength-to-weight ratio.
